We have our own kitchen which offers a balance meal with a choice of menu each day. A vegetarian option is always available.
Shropshire Council's school meals service aims to provide good quality nutritious food for children in Shropshire schools. Our highly skilled staff work to menus and recipes compiled by dedicated catering professionals to ensure that meals are as nutritious and consistent as possible across the county.
Price
A Shropshire primary school meal will cost £1.85 from September 2010 which can be payable daily, weekly, monthly or per term. Please contact the school office for more information.
Payment Methods
Payment can be by cash or cheque. Cheques should be made payable to Shropshire Council. If more than one child attends the same school, the cheque can be written to cover the whole amount. If payment is made by cheque we require a minimum amount of £9.25 which is one week’s meals.
Menus
New menus are developed each September for the start of the school year. On offer will be a wide variety of nutritious, high-quality and locally-sourced produce which will meet the Government’s standards for all 14 main nutrients, including carbohydrate, fat, protein and fibre. Menu items have been analysed using the ‘Saffron Nutritional Analysis system’, software which monitors the levels of nutrients present in food.
The school meals service provides its meals from traditional kitchens without the use of mass production or re-heating processes and sources ingredients as locally as possible.
Primary school menus include an increase in the use of:
and a reduction in the use of:
The new menus aim to reflect the extensive research that has been conducted with headteachers, pupils and parents, as well as meeting the School Food Standards.
